Excavation & Trenching Services in Cupertino, CA

Cupertino runs from flat valley neighborhoods like Rancho Rinconada and Garden Gate up into the foothills of Monta Vista and Inspiration Heights. Much of the work here is rebuilds, additions and ADUs on established lots, where the ground is crowded with old utility lines and mature trees. Harris Excavation handles excavation, utility trenching, grading and drainage across Cupertino for homeowners, builders and developers.

We’re a licensed general engineering contractor (CSLB #1117960) and PG&E Operator Qualified.

What We Do

Cupertino Permits and Protected Trees

Grading permits in Cupertino come through Public Works. Standard permit conditions bar grading on weekends and require a civil or soils engineer to review the grading against the approved plans and sign off on it, so we schedule weekday work and coordinate with your engineer from the start.

The City also protects certain trees on private property, including native oaks and heritage trees, and expects trees to be protected during construction. When a trench or footing runs near a protected tree, we plan the route with your arborist and dig the root zone by hand or with a hydrovac.

Cupertino Project: Hydrovac Trenching for a New Electrical Service

A Cupertino client needed a trench for a new electrical service through an alignment already packed with live electric, gas and telecom lines. We brought in a hydrovac truck, which cuts soil with pressurized water and vacuums it into a tank, and excavated around every existing line without damage. See the project or read how our hydrovac works.

Cupertino Excavation FAQ

Why use a hydrovac instead of an excavator?

When a trench crosses live gas, electric or fiber lines, a bucket can snag them. A hydrovac loosens soil with water and vacuums it out, so the lines are exposed without contact. It also leaves no spoil pile on your property.

Can you work on weekends?

Cupertino grading permits don’t allow weekend grading, so permitted grading happens on weekdays. We build that into the schedule up front.

Can you dig near my oak tree?

Usually, yes, with the right method. We follow your arborist’s tree protection plan and hand dig or hydrovac inside the root zone.

Do you work directly with homeowners?

Yes. We work directly for homeowners and as the excavation subcontractor for builders and developers.
